All you need to know about the latest update to Capture One Pro

Take your collaboration to the next level, get more freedom of movement on your shoots, and make your editing sessions quicker and easier than ever by updating your Capture One Pro desktop app from the 14th of June.

Here are seven improvements to get excited about in the latest update.

1. Make your Live Sessions longer

Give your clients and collaborators more time to review and give feedback on your images. With the latest update of Capture One Pro, Live sessions can last for up to one month, letting your clients view and rate the images in their own time and giving you more time to review their feedback.

2. Keep your shared images safe

Concerned about people screenshotting your images in Capture One Live and using them without your consent? Don’t worry. With the latest update, you can now find the option to add a watermark to your images in the Capture One Live menu making it easier to keep your images safe.

3. Commenting for Capture One Live is here

We hear you. Tags and ratings are fine and dandy, but when will you be able to add comments to images in a Capture One Live Session? The answer is now.

With the latest update, we are launching the beta test for comments. The clients or collaborators that you choose to share the Capture One Live link with can now add written feedback to the images as they come in or for as long as you keep the Session “live”.

For now, comments will only be viewable on the browser. But we are continuously working on improving the tool and in the not-so-distant future, comments will also sync to your Capture One Pro desktop app.

4. Get ready for Capture One for iPad

We know many of you are looking forward to working on the go with the Capture One iPad app later this month. To take full advantage of the flexibility that the iPad app offers and to use the cloud transfer to move your images from your iPad to your desktop, you need to be on the latest version of Capture One Pro.

Update from the 14th of June and be ready to explore the possibilities of Capture One for iPad from day one.

5. Unleashed – Wireless Tethering for Sony users

Since the launch of Capture One Pro 22 in December, Canon users have been able to get off the leash and get fast and reliable wireless tethering on their shoots. Sony camera owners can now enjoy the same freedom after installing the latest update to Capture One Pro.

Sony users can now enjoy full range of motion with wireless tethering

Get those hard-to-reach angles, remove tripping hazards and clutter around your workspace, and get more freedom to move around the set without worrying about pulling all your equipment with you.

See which cameras are supported for wireless tethering here.

6. Introducing the Magic Eraser

Your wish is our command. The Magic Eraser is here to complete the magic brushing experience for anyone who works with Layers. As a counter tool to the Magic Brush, the Magic Eraser removes parts of a mask based on similarities in the image.

Update your software to make your masking workflow faster and cleaner than ever.

7. The tool panel is getting a new look

We are always working to make your editing experience as efficient and fast as possible. That is why the Tool Panel is getting a redesign.

The tool panel is getting a new look with larger icons and titles. It will also be easier to customize the layout to make it fit your workflow

With the latest update to Capture One Pro coming, you’ll find a refreshed Tool Panel design featuring new icons, offering a more intuitive, predictable design of the tool tabs. It also makes the experience of switching between iPad and desktop seamless so you can work even easier within the Capture One ecosystem going forward.

Additionally, a dedicated button has been added to make customization of the Tool Panel more discoverable. You can rearrange the panel as you please, so why not play with the placement of the tools you use the most to make it fit your workflow?

Capture One Releases Capture One 22 Update

New Capabilities, Improved Speed, and Enhanced Performance With Apple Silicon

COPENHAGEN, April 5, 2022: Capture One releases a dynamic and powerful update (15.2.0) to Capture One 22 that sees an entirely re-envisioned keystone tool, a slew of feature updates with expanded capabilities, and Apple silicon performance advancement that brings substantial speed improvements across a host of the most demanding and frequently used functions. This update also brings new camera and lens support for a number of the most recent hardware releases.

Reflecting Capture One’s ongoing commitment to the photographic community to continually evolve with feedback, there are a host of user experience improvements, and this release also marks a streamlining of the Capture One product line as subscription users of Brand licenses will have their product automatically changed to Pro, expanding functionality by enabling utility for all supported camera models and file types.

What’s New In Capture One 22 (15.2.0)

KeyStone Tool Redesign

The Keystone Tool has been redesigned with new functionality and a new user interface. The Tool is now split into two tabs, Guides and Sliders, making it easy to automatically apply corrections and as well as manually tweak the result afterwards, and Auto Keystone has been added for all camera models, allowing a swift and precise perspective correction of most images.

Auto Keystone

Let Capture One detect and correct the perspective automatically. By pressing the ‘Auto’ button in the Keystone Tool, lines in the image(s) are automatically detected, evaluated, and used for the correction. The result is a swift automatic correction with high precision.

By default, Auto Keystone will correct Vertical Keystone. This can be changed by simply selecting one of the other two guide modes to activate the cursor tool. The icon within the ‘Auto’ button will change accordingly and pressing it will instantly apply the desired correction. Auto Keystone works on batches of images.

Auto Keystone can also be triggered from the regular Auto Adjust functionality in the main toolbar. To do this, tick Keystone in the drop-down menu of Auto Adjust. Note that only Vertical Keystone is available from Auto Adjust. If Capture One is unable to detect suitable lines in the image, pressing ‘Auto’ will have no effect.

Tool Design

The Keystone Guides have been redesigned to easily place them with greater precision. Additionally, the precision of the guides can be fine-tuned using the keyboard arrows when a guide is selected.

The content of the Keystone Tool has been split into two tabs, ‘Guides’ and ‘Sliders’. Guides offers fully automatic and guided keystone options, while Sliders offers manual adjustments.

The new adjustment ‘Skew’ has been introduced to accommodate a wider range of perspective corrections

New underlying model

To allow the Keystone Tool to provide perfectly vertical and horizontal lines when correcting perspective using the Guides, the new adjustment type Skew has been introduced. Additionally, the default Amount is changed from 80 to 100. Decreasing this after using the Guides is useful in some scenarios where creating a more natural perspective is desired as opposed to perfectly vertical or horizontal lines.

Apple Silicon (M1) performance improvements

The following areas have been improved:

  • Preview generation is up to 100% faster.
  • Luma Mask rendering is up to 300% faster. This makes it faster to render the initial Luma Mask and significantly faster to tweak the luminosity range afterwards.
  • Feather and Refine Mask are up to 1,000% faster.
  • Fujifilm X-Trans raw loading is up to 100% faster, making the preview generation and rendering when zooming feel significantly faster on images from Fujifilm APS-C cameras.

Capture One Live session duration

The duration of individual Live Sessions can now be configured to 1, 3, 5, 7, or 14 days.

Improved Auto Rotate

The algorithm behind Auto Rotate has been improved, providing more accurate results on images where clear lines (such as horizons horizons) are visible.

Crop Aspect Ratio behavior

When changing the Aspect Ratio through the Crop Tool, the Crop will instantly snap to the new ratio. his makes it easier and more intuitive to work with different aspect ratios, as you don’t have to make a change to the crop for the new ratio to apply.

Drop-down menus behavior

Important functionality is no longer hidden behind drop-down that could only be accessed through long-pressing the icons. Instead, a redesign of these icons and menu behaviors makes it intuitive and easy to use. Most icons have gotten a downwards arrow that will open the menu, and all menus can be opened by right clicking their icons. The affected areas are:

  • All Cursor Tools
  • Export
  • Auto Adjust
  • Before & After
  • Recipe Proofing
  • Add New Layer
  • Add New Export Recipe

New customizable default sorting

Capture One has always sorted images by Name as default. This is not optimal when shooting with multiple cameras. Many users have asked to be able to sort by Date as default. This new functionality will make it possible to set a custom default sort criteria as well as direction.

New Camera & Lens Support

New Camera Support:

  • Phase One iXM-GS120

New Lens Support:

  • Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 20mm F1.4 PRO
  • Sony FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II + 2X Teleconverter
  • Sony FE 70-200mm F2.8 GM OSS II + 1.4X Teleconverter

  • Sigma 100-400mm F5-6.3 DG DN OS | C

Capture One’s profiles are unlike any other and are the meticulous work of a dedicated team that carefully evaluates and interprets each camera’s RAW formats. This process allows Capture One to present images with the utmost fidelity, often bringing out nuances that other programs can’t even perceive.

Currently offering RAW support for more than 500 cameras, Capture One also provides profiling and image correction support for more than 500 lenses. As with the RAW file interpretation, Capture One carefully measures the optical characteristics of each supported lens and builds correction algorithms that compensate for the various optical imperfections of various designs. As a result, Capture One can correct numerous common optical issues such as vignette, and chromatic aberration as needed for each of the supported lenses, providing users with the best possible version of an image. As always, the team remains dedicated to adding increased support for the newest camera bodies and lenses.

Capture One Launches Capture One 22

New features, new capabilities, and new perspectives for a new world, Capture One is providing better solutions to capture the world as you see it

COPENHAGEN, Dec. 9th, 2021: Capture One, the premier name in photo editing software, celebrates the immediate release of Capture One 22, optimized for Apple M1, M1 Pro, M1 Pro Max, macOS Monterey, and Windows 11.

Capture One is the essential digital photography processing and workflow solution. Designed for both imaging enthusiasts and professionals alike, Capture One 22 adds pivotal and critical image making capabilities, and spearheads groundbreaking workflows. With an updated performance architecture, and support for the latest cameras like the Sony A7IV and Nikon Z9, Capture One 22 adds capability throughout the application. It also lays the foundation for a suite of exciting new products and features coming in 2022 focused on multi-device connectivity, including our first cloud & tablet products coming early next year.

Capture One’s unyielding development is driven by an evolving roadmap grounded in user feedback from both the Capture One community and creative community overall, and Capture One 22 exemplifies that dedication with the introduction of two of the most requested features: Panoramic Stitching and HDR Merging. With the addition of these latest features, Capture One looks forward to welcoming a new core of creatives with new competencies.

I’m thrilled to announce the launch of Capture One 22. Capture One 22 is the culmination of months of technological innovation. Guided by our deep understanding of photography workflows, Capture One 22 boasts even more powerful editing tools, from Panorama Stitching to HDR Merging to Wireless Tethering to our first AI feature, Auto Rotate—all equipped to serve the needs of photographers worldwide. – Rafael Orta, CEO, Capture One

The new Panorama Stitching capability allows users to easily merge multiple photos into a singular perfect panorama. It is a great way to create sweeping vistas and wide panoramic images, but it is also used to increase the megapixel count in your photographs and create imagery that simultaneously has a shallow depth of field and a wide angle of view using the Brenizer Method.

Capture One HDR Merging allows users to quickly combine multiple shots taken with different exposure settings into one image to maximize dynamic range. This allows the brightest highlights and the darkest shadows to be captured and used in the photo, creating natural looking high dynamic range images that are more true to how the human eye sees the scene.

These new features significantly reduce the need for external applications, all while increasing efficiency, providing a truly fluid experience for creatives. Version 22 also sees performance improvements across the board and brings a Capture One first with wireless tethering for select camera models.
